Stamford Bridge stages one of the Premier League’s marquee fixtures this weekend as Chelsea host Liverpool. Both clubs enter the clash under pressure to respond after recent setbacks. Chelsea have lost back-to-back league games under Enzo Maresca and risk three straight defeats for the first time since 2023. Liverpool, beaten 2-1 at Crystal Palace last time out, are also battling poor London form, having lost their last three matches in the capital. With both teams desperate to steady their campaigns, this meeting carries real weight in the early title and top-four race. The loss to Galatasaray did not help.
Chelsea took confidence from their 3-1 win over Liverpool in May, their first league success against the Reds since 2020. Another victory here would mean back-to-back league wins in this fixture for the first time since 2014. But their home record against reigning champions is poor, with four defeats in their last five such matches at Stamford Bridge.
Defensive discipline is another concern. Chelsea have received more cards than any Premier League side since the start of last season, averaging 2.7 per game under Maresca. Even when they’ve started well, they’ve struggled to close matches out, losing three times in 2025 when scoring first.
Liverpool’s problems lie elsewhere. Klopp’s side have lost their last three games in London, their worst streak in the capital since 2010. They’ve also been vulnerable late in matches, with three of their opening six fixtures this season decided by 90th-minute goals. Federico Chiesa has been a bright spot, scoring twice in just 167 minutes of league action, while Alexander Isak, now in Liverpool colours, has netted in his last two league visits to Stamford Bridge, both for Newcastle.
This promises to be a game of fine margins: Chelsea must turn dominance into points, while Liverpool need to prove their London hoodoo isn’t becoming a full-blown trend.
Both sides have shown flaws, but Liverpool’s attacking edge and Chelsea’s inconsistency suggest the visitors can edge a tight game.
Predicted score: Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool (9.00 )
